His Majesty the King will make a rare public appearance on his birthday on the balcony of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall in the Royal Plaza. Last year, HM The King made an appearance before a small audience at the window of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall at the Grand Palace. The event this year will be the first time since 9th June 2006 that His Majesty has appeared on the balcony of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall. Back then, a sea of Thais wearing yellow shirts, representing Monday the day that the king was born, flooded the Royal Plaza and all the way down Ratchadamnoen Nok as far as the eye could see. The government are hoping that this year will be just as big.
