Over the years there have been many reports of people having things stolen from their bags on long distance buses in Thailand. Many of these go between Bangkok and southern destinations such as Samui and Phuket. On these buses, bags are stored in a special luggage compartment underneath the area where you sit. Seems to be safe as the only way you can access it is from an outside door. Right? Wrong! The bus assistants can enter the luggage compartment through a secret door from up front. So, while you sleep, they can take their time in rifling through your bags. This picture from today’s Bangkok Post shows a driver & his assistant re-enacting such a crime.
